The party is finally at the end of their journey. The walls of Katapesh come into view on the horizon. They ride into the city and then realize that they are short one member of their caravan. Radi-Hamdi seems to have dropped out of sight. After a quick conference, the group decides to proceed into the city without Radi-Hamdi. The entire group has lived in Katapesh at one time or another, so the sights are nothing new for them but they are a welcome change from the never-ending sands.
The group heads to the home of Duran and Sahlira, the Roveshki Manor, to see if the group can rest there. They find that the house is full with people trying to make deals with the Roveshki merchant family, now that they have secured Kelmerane. Garaval suggests that the group heads to Rayhan’s house, so that he can discharge his duty to Almah, of making sure that the group arrives at Rayhan’s home successfully. They agree and proceed to travel thru the city, to the south end, and arrive at Rayhan’s cliffside home. Rayhan’s groundskeeper, Eramin, meets them at the door and takes the letter of introduction from Garaval. Eramin gives the letter to Rayhan, who comes outside to see what the commotion is about. He reads the letter and asks the group to come inside they can discuss what they are here for.
Once the group is settled down inside, he asks them what brings them to his home. The letter says that the party has brought something to get Rayhan’s professional opinion on but not going into details on what that is. The groups brings out the Scroll and hands it to him but doesn’t tell him what the item is. Rayhan starts examining the Scroll and the group can tell that he is getting excited by the item but is taking his time and not making any decisions on what the item is. Duran finally tells Rayhan what they believe the Scroll to be. This widens Rayhan’s eyes but he still makes no sign that he believes this. He excuses himself and goes upstairs. He comes back down with a tome that he quickly starts flipping thru. He casts a few spells on the Scroll, one of which is Comprehend Languages and his eyes widen further as the large Rune written on the Scroll, dissolves into a picture of an island archipelago that is Kakishon. He proceeds to tell the group that he didn’t believe that they actually had the legendary Scroll of Kakishon and still isn’t willing to say that it actually is the Scroll, but he willing to say that it just might be it. He wants to perform some tests and further research on it and the group agrees. He also offers to let the group stay at his estate and Kahn, Fiora and Shurooq agree but Duran and Sahlira say that they are going to stay across town at their home.
The party decides to meet up the next day and sell the gear they have been toting across the desert. Kahn decides to separate from the group and head over to his patron’s home to let them know he is in town. The group experiences what the Katapesh Bazaar has to offer and is able to get all their gear sold off and they start looking for things they could buy. While going thru town, Kahn sees two very large men coming down the street with obvious bodyguards, who aren’t quite as large as the two men. The two approach Kahn and ask him to join their Ruk team and he declines. They end up telling him that they are Ruk players and one of their teammates is missing and they believe foul play. Kahn tells them he will tell his group about the problem and they will try to look into it.
Duran and Sahlira leave Fiora and Shurooq to go to the Temple of Sarenrae, and they wander thru town to go pay their guild dues. While wandering they hear a whispered voice calling for them from a rug shop. After checking around a bit they find that one of the carpets is an intelligent Carpet of Flying name Cloud Cutter. They buy the carpet and take it back to the Roveshki Manor. The group gets back together at Rayhan’s house, only to find that Shurooq never made it back. Fiora tells the group that she left her at the Pathfinder Guild’s headquarters. The group heads over to the Pathfinder headquarters and finds Shurooq lost in conversation with members of the guild. They take her out of the building and over to the Roveshki Manor to show her Cloud Cutter. Kahn, Fiora and Shurooq head back to Rayhan’s home with plans to meet back up the next day and investigate the Ruk player’s disappearance.
The next morning Duran is awoken to Amwyr Yuseifah arriving at the Roveshki manor with a large group of slaves in tow. Amwyr gives Duran a large bag filled with coins as a show of thanks from his Duskwalker guild. He also brought slaves to give to each member of the group as a show of thanks. Duran explains that the rest of the group is at another location and Amwyr tells him that he will bring the slaves to them. After a long march down to Rayhan’s home, the group are shown the available slaves. Fiora ends up taking almost the entire morning trying to decide but the group all ends up with their own personal slave. After Amwyr leaves Rayhan’s, the entire group free their slaves and then head out to start investigating the missing Ruk player.
The arrive at the home of Ezler Palmatorian and start checking out the room of the Ruk player. They see that the bed is a bit torn up but not much else is disturbed. After checking out the scene they find a tuft of black hair or fur lodged in the sheets of the bed. They identify that it is fur and belongs to a Black-haired Gnoll. They only know of two gnolls that are regulars in Katapesh. One, named Darkpaw, works at a bar in Dog Town but is known as a kind of simpleton. The other is named Gnarlpaw the Black and is rumored to be a worsipper of Lamashtu. They start asking around for Gnarlpaw and find a gnoll in Dog Town, named Sharpfang that was going with Gnarlpaw to a Lamashtu ceremony and decided at the last minute to skip going. He knows they were going to the Ruined Monastery in the Twilight Gate.
The group goes down to the Ruined Monastery, a ruin of walls built up around a desert bowl. They take the tour of the place and while looking around, they discover a secret door in the platform in the middle of the site. They decide to come back after dark to check it out. When they arrive at the site, they notice someone else sneaking into the Ruined Monastery. They follow this person into the ruins and overhear a gnoll talking with 3 humans. The Gnoll says a prayer to Lamashtu and the stone in the platform, moves up exposing a set of stairs going down. The group waits for a few minutes and then goes over to the secret door and Duran says the same prayer to Lamashtu and the stone raises up. The group goes down into the secret tunnel after Fiora casts Darkvision on everyone but Kahn.
They head down into the tunnel and hear noises coming from below. Fiora casts Invisibility Sphere on the party just as an Ogre wanders up the passage to investigate the noise they made. They quickly dispatch the first Ogre and Shurooq casts Silence on the other Ogre they encounter below and they are able to take them both out fairly quietly. What will the party discover below? Will they find Ezler before it is too late? What other things will they discover in Katapesh?
