The group enters the mausoleum and finds a cat sitting on top of the bier in the center of the room. There is also a rather large draconic skull which, shortly after the party enters the mausoleum, starts to glow and float into the air. The skull introduces herself as Venema Shodair, who in life was Nex’s brass dragon companion until she fell in battle against the Eater of Magic. Nex restored her to a semblance of life as a Wyrmskull Guardian and she has watched over Nex’s mausoleum ever since.
The party talks to her for a while and discovers that Andrathi’s spirit still has a tenuous connection to this location via Venema and his old familiar, the cat Spooky. They talk with Venema, and thru her Andrathi. They gather info on Jhavhul but not really more then they already had, but at least it confirmed info they already knew. They do learn that when Andrathi trapped Jhavhul and a portion of his army in Kakishon that he damaged the Scroll and thereby the pocket dimension of Kakishon. This allowed Jhavhul to open the portal out of Kakishon when the party was testing the Scroll.
With the aid of Cloud Cutter, the group decides to take to the air and travel to the nearby island of Khandelwal to search for where the shaitans camp is located. After a few days of combing the desert, they finally come across a small depression that has the ruins of an old temple and a gynosphinx perched on it. After a quick look around the area, they land Cloud Cutter just in front of the ruins and strike up a conversation with the sphinx. She introduces herself as Zulfiqar and tells them if they want her help and access to the shaitan’s lair, they must answer her riddle. After a brief conversation they are able to guess the answer to her riddle but no sooner does she step aside then one of the shaitan’s step out of the back wall of the temple and tells Zulfiqar to shut up and and that she is in charge.
The shaitan, Iqilma, quickly gets irritated with the group and attacks with the help of two other shaitan’s that rise up out of the ground on either side of the platform. The group makes quick work of them all, especially since Zulfiqar doesn’t help the shaitan’s after being verbally abused by Iqilma. Zulfiqar tells them where the entrance to the underground compound is and then takes off. They use the wand of Stone Shape that they got from the Protean’s and use Cloud Cutter to lower themselves into one of the oddest rooms they have ever seen. This bizarre, sixty-foot-wide chamber suggests the interior of twin six-stepped ziggurats set base to base; the floor drops away in five-foot-wide tiers mirrored by similar tiers in the ceiling above. In the center of the chamber floats a blocky structure some twenty feet across, covered in an intricate lacework of tiny, glowing, golden Terran runes, giving a dim light to the entire chamber. Imprisoned within the block is a snakelike
creature with a feathered reptilian head and delicate humanoid arms that seems to have been fused into the block.
Before they can explore the room, 4 statues in the corner of the room animate and move to attack. The group tries to stay away from the Spikestone Guardians but they prove difficult to dispatch at range and the group closes to engage them as 4 shaitans enter the room. The group proves to be a match for them and is able to defeat all of them.
Where is Obherak, the leader of the shaitans? Will they free the protean trapped in the floating stone? Is the stone the Earth Seed that they need to escape Kakishon?
